A Level 2 electrician is a professional electrician who is licensed and authorised to carry out commercial and residential electrical work, which includes connecting a property to a power (electricity) grid, and repairs, and underground low-voltage wiring.
In short, Level 2 electricians are qualified to install, repair and maintain complex and higher-risk electrical systems, like overhead and underground services, that connect with the electrical distribution network.
Having a Level 2 accreditation can open up new employment opportunities in the electrical industry.
Key Responsibilities of a Level 2 Electrician
Disconnection and Reconnection
Level 2 electricians can disconnect or reconnect your home or business to electrical services via underground and overhead service lines. Equipment, including excavators and cherry pickers, is used to guarantee the safety and efficiency of our electricians.
Working with Service Lines
Our Level 2 electricians install, maintain and repair both overhead and underground power service lines that connect properties or buildings to the electricity network.
Solar Metering
Meters measure a property’s electrical use for billing purposes. Level 2 electricians are qualified to install and configure your meter, so it picks up different variables like solar power, off-peak electricity, and the time the electricity is used. Any meter disconnections are resolved quickly.
Our solar metering services include the installation of solar metering systems and we adhere to all NSW Service & Installation rules along with Australian standards.
Network Connections
Level 2 electricians connect power lines to the electrical network and work with service protection devices and fuses.
Addressing Defects
Our electricians often address any defects that are issued when a property’s electrical network fails to meet NSW Service & Installation rules along with Australian standards. Common issues include faulty wiring, low-hanging power lines (overhead) and problems with electrical point of attachments.
Cherry Picker Hire
At Hornsby Electric, we offer reliable cherry pickers for hire at affordable prices, catering to electrical and other projects. Cherry pickers comply with all Australian safety standards, which means you can rely on our equipment to safely complete projects that involve heights.
Our electricians will give you expert advice to ensure that you have the best cherry picker for your specific needs and offer ongoing support throughout the hire period.
Overhead Electrical Services
Using cherry pickers, we efficiently navigate heights to install or repair overhead electrical services. Our work complies with NSW Service & Installation rules along with Australian standards for wiring to ensure our safety while we provide reliable solutions for electrical issues.
Our dedicated and experienced team offers effective solutions for all electrical issues from the planning stage to the completion of the project. We understand the importance of a timely and safe execution.
Underground Electrical Services
We carry out underground electrical service installations, including cables, and conduits. Our Accredited ASP Level 2 electricians comply with NSW Service & Installation rules along with Australian standards of wiring by identifying and mitigating any potential risks to ensure a reliable and professional installation that meets all your requirements.
At Hornsby Electric, we offer comprehensive project management from planning to completion for all underground electrical services.
Solar Metering
We install solar metering systems, as well as offer troubleshooting, routine maintenance and comprehensive support to ensure their optimal performance.
We adhere to the strict Australian guidelines and regulatory standards every step of the way.
Power Poles
Level 2 electricians supply and install power poles to supply electricity to existing and newly constructed properties via underground and or overhead power cabling. They also provide temporary builder supply during construction or renovation.
Our work with power poles also includes the installation and maintenance of galvanised steel and timber power poles for overhead electrical systems for electrical supply, as well as power upgrades, disconnections/reconnections, switchboard relocations, mains relocations and metering upgrades to meet all electrical needs.
Why Choose a Level 2 Electrician?
Specialised Expertise
Level 2 electricians have been educated and trained to resolve complex electrical problems safely and effectively.

They also ensure all their work comply with NSW Service & Installation rules along with Australian standards for wiring to protect themselves, the public and the integrity of the electrical network.
Authorisation
Accredited Level 2 electricians have the authorisation to connect homes and businesses to the electrical network , including overhead and underground services, and metering equipment.
Resolve Emergencies
Level 2 electricians respond immediately to electrical emergencies, including power outages and damaged power lines. They can resolve any electrical issues quickly, ensuring the power is restored in a short time.
Training and Accreditation for Level 2 Electricians
Certificate III in Electrotechnology
Aspiring Level 2 electricians will first need to complete Certificate III in Electrotechnology, along with host apprenticeship training which will provide them with both complex and straightforward electrical skills.
ASP Pathway Training
ASP Pathway Level 2 training is necessary for people who want to become an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). Aspiring Level 2 electricians will complete all the core units required to perform the necessary electrical work.
Class Levels
An electrician’s role, experience and skill level are determined by their ASP level. There are three ASP levels:
ASP Level 1
Individuals must meet specific electrical training requirements. Work involves electrical repairs, upgrading the electrical network, or extending the electricity network.
ASP Level 2
Electricians must be an ASP Level 2 to provide electricity connection and disconnection services. They also work closely with underground and overhead power services lines.
ASP Level 3
Electricians must be an ASP Level 3 design electrical network assets, including overhead and underground infrastructure.
Accreditation
After completing all the necessary units and training, an aspiring Level 2 electrician will need to fill out the official documentation to send to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment for accreditation and to be registered as an ASP.
The last step is to obtain authorisation from the relevant Electrical Supply Distribution Network (ESDN), such as Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy.
Once this has all been completed, accreditation will be granted!
